Bead Trends October 2011

The October issue of Bead Trends is fabulous. The Designer Highlight is the lovely and talented Lori Anderson. It is a must read.

I have this stunning necklace in the October issue. Below is the tutorial. Gota run. Talk to you soon.

Wire: 49 strand heavy / Soft Flex

Wood: 1 strand 1” flat oval beads
Glass: 1 strand AAA grade 12mm faceted round smoky quartz
Semi Precious: 1 strand AAA grade 10mm round green Aventurine
1 strand green AA grade Aventurine nugget
Crystal : 3 – 11mm Swarovski Gold Shadow Galactic
12 – 10mm Swarovski light Colorado topaz marguerites
20 – 4mm Swarovski chrysolite bicones
1 strand clear quality grade crystal nuggets 13mm – 15mm
Spacer: 10 – 4mm Swarovski silver plate clear rondelle spacer

Findings
Clasp: 3 strand silver plate with attached lobster clasp
Earwires: 2 sterling silver
Headpins: 2 decorative silver plate
Crimp Beads: 6 silver plate
Crimp covers: 6 – 4mm silver plate

Save two crystal nuggets for earrings

1. Cut three strands or beading wire. Mine are 22” , 21”, 20” String on a crimp bead and crimp then attach to one end of the clasp. Repeat two more times. Make sure to attach them in order of length with longest strand on the bottom.

2. Lay out all your beads on a beading board first. Take the first strand and string in random order you set up on your beading board.

3. End with a crimp bead and crimp then attached to the other half of the clasp. Repeat two more times.

4. Cover crimp beads with crimp covers and clamp shut.

EARRINGS:
String a crystal nugget on the decorative headpin and make a wrapped loop. Attached to sterling silver ear wire. Repeat.

This is necklace is expensive to make, so here are some money saving tips:
You can substitute chain for one of the strands.
Don’t use AAA grade beads. Use lesser quality.
Make it a two strand instead of a three strand necklace
